アメリカ合衆国オハイオ州ヴァンワート市City of Van Wert, Ohio, USA

　五色町（現：洲本市）は平成8年2月14日、アメリカ合衆国オハイオ州ヴァンワート市と姉妹都市提携をヴァンワート市で結びました。
　ヴァンワート市はアメリカ合衆国北東部に位置し、基幹産業は農業で、近年、北西部では企業進出が目覚ましく、農業、工業とも活発な都市です。
　五色町とヴァンワート市との交流は平成5年に親善のために訪問したことから始まりました。その後、町内の中・高校生がヴァンワート市でホームステイしました。こうした過去の友好が次第に深まり、平成7年夏には、ヴァンワート市よりユージン・バグレイ市長を含め14名の使節団が来町し、その際に姉妹都市提携することが確認されました。その後、中高生12名をヴァンワート市へ派遣し、翌平成8年には同町より砂尾五色町長を含む19名がヴァンワート市を訪問しました。同年8月にはヴァンワート市より使節団が来町し、8月15日鮎原河上神社にて再度、姉妹都市提携調印を行いました。
　平成18年2月11日に五色町と洲本市が合併し、今までの交流を引き継ぐために、平成20年10月には柳洲本市長がヴァンワート市を親善訪問し、姉妹都市提携を結びました。
　この姉妹都市提携は、文化、教育などの分野において、相互交流の促進に努め、国際関係のより良い理解を促進するために学生をはじめ市民レベルでの相互交流を活発に行うことを目指しています。

The former town of Goshiki (a part of Sumoto city) and the City of Van Wert, Ohio , U.S.A became affiliated as sister cities on February 14th, 1996.

The city of Van Wert is located in the northeastern region of the U.S.A., and, while its key industry is agriculture, in recent years, the northwestern area of the city has seen a remarkable emergence of enterprises in the manufacturing industry.

The friendship between the former township of Goshiki and Van Wert began in 1993 when the Goshiki International Association visited Van Wert on a mission of goodwill. Following this mission, junior high and high school students from Goshiki went on homestays to Van Wert. In this way, the friendship between our cities deepened, and our affiliation as sister cities was officially established when the mayor of Van Wert, Mr. Eugene Bagley, visited Goshiki as the head of a delegation of fourteen. In 1996, twelve junior high and high school students were sent to Van Wert accompanied by a nineteen member delegation from Goshiki headed by the Mayor of Goshiki, Mr. Sunao. Following that, another delegation from Van Wert visited Goshiki on August 15th of the same year for a formal signing of the sister city affiliation at the Aihara Shrine.

The township of Goshiki merged with Sumoto city on February 11th, 2006. Mr. Yanagi, the mayor of Sumoto, visited Van Wert to succeed the cultural exchange which had been established with Goshiki by signing a new sister city affiliation in October, 2008.

The purpose of this sister city affiliation is to succeed in further developing mutual exchange and understanding in the areas of culture and education by actively facilitating cultural exchange the students and citizens of Sumoto.
